APM Consulting specializes in Automated People Mover (APM) systems. John Champ, the founder and President of APM Consulting, has 30 years of experience in the People Mover industry. Mr. Champ began his People Mover career in 1977 as an employee of Westinghouse Electric Corporation's Transportation Division. During his career, he has had personal involvement in the manufacture, inspection, testing, start-up, and operations and maintenance of many people mover systems including the following:

  • Miami International Airport
  • Orlando International Airport
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport
  • Miami MetroMover
  • Gatwick International Airport, UK
  • Denver International Airport
  • Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada
  • Houston Intercontinental Airport


Mr. Champ provided management and technical oversight for the operations and maintenance of the people mover system at Denver International Airport. Additionally, he is the immediate past President of the International Airport Automated People Movers Association, IAAPMA, and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)Automated People Mover Standards Committee.

As a member of the ASCE APM Standards Committee, Mr. Champ has helped to develop many of the standards used in the people mover industry today. Most recently, he helped write the Operations and Maintenance section of the APM Standards.

In addition to Mr. Champ's extensive operations and maintenance experience, he has been involved with APM system design reviews, start ups, acceptance testing, and contract negotiations.
